Control and Instrumentation in a liquefaction Gas plant

Recently I´ve been doing an intership in a liquefaction gas plant in Peru, in the technical services area, control and instrumentation department. I saw a very interesting things in special in security of the proccess, you know, if the gas escapes pipeline all can end in a big boom! a lot of money is lost and maybe happen an explosion. I will explain in a few lines some of the control devices and controllers.

First of all you have to know the diference between a DCS system and a SCADA system, I will do a post for more information about that. In this plant they use a DCS system for monitoring and control all the variables and packages of the plant. The DCS system is DELTA V from EMERSON

In this DCS you can create the control logic and the HMI view for all the variables, variables with a phisical connection (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, MODBUS, etc)

Example of a control logic

Example of HMI view

The delta V has its own controller pack with its power supply and I/O modules, this controller can be reduntant or not, in the plant all controllers  is redundant, for more security.

Also this System has an especial module for safety called logic solver. This module runs only the logics for cause and effect charts, and only has hard wired connection doesn't have bus connection for more security.

This is the diagram of connection for the SIS system and the control system.

The control and Instrumentation is a very interesting topic and I will do more post about this.

See you  later

Mining experience

Peru is famous for its ancient remains like Macchu Picchu or Caral and its mixed culture mixture of Spanish, Inca and African but Peru has a lot of natural resources too, I´m not talking about the forest, animals and fishes; mineral resources like Gold, Cupper and Iron; and Hydrocarborns are found in the country.

This kind of resources creates a lot of oportunities for foreign companies who came to the country and start to explore and explote the resources. Well in part this is good because create more job oportunities and increase the national economy but what happen with the enviroment many of these companies do not control his waste and garbage and create pollution in the air or contamined water another point against is the long-term plan, the natural resources are not unlimited, one day they will end and all of our economical system will probably go down.

I have the pleasure of say that I´ve worked in a mine company for a few months, the work there is very nice and exciting but is so dangerous there are too many thing that can hurt you or even kill you. Imagine you are walking pacefully for the plant and suddenly near to you are a big truck, yes these truck who the tires are bigger than you holy sh*t you think I just saw my live pass in front of me ok calm down didn´t happen anything yet and when you are in calm a big explosion followed by a earthquake rebembered you that you are in a mine. To this things you have to add the fact of most of the mines are in remote and inhospitable places with a very very bad weather conditions.

Ok ok it isn´t so tragic but can happen, well for the nice point of view is very interesting see the machines and the equipment used many of them has a great technology and are easy to use and do changes. The trucks, drillers ,Crushers and conveyors are pieces of technology very complex.

These kind of thing makes a mine a interesting place to work, but for me is not the most interesting place I think there are more interesting places to work, like a liquefaction plant in other post I will tell you what is this my experience there.

C ya

PD: I hope write more continued.

Disassemble the bowl of a HP 700 Cone Crusher

Hello again, days before I say I would post more often, well this is the post for this week.

I'm working on a minig company in the area of crushers plant, here we have four kinds of crushers I hope you explain this more with more detail in a future post.
We have two Norberg HP 700 Cone Crusher manufactured in 1993 yes they are really old, but you don't want to know how many years have the others and one of the most common works here is disassemble some parts of the crusher in special the bowl.

Nordberg HP 700 Cone Crusher

HP means High Performance and this series in the conbination of speed, throw, and cavity design well this say it manufacturer, HP series is the next generation before Symons Cone Crushers and Omnicone Crushers, the Symons cone is well known for its rugged construction and application versatility. The Symons cone has set the standard in the mining industry more than 70 years ago, and the Omnicone introduced many new innovations to reduce maintenance and operating costs, and to provide designed-in modern features such as hydraulic setting adjustment, tramp release, and cavity clearing ok the Omnicone is old too.

This is a poster of the crusher

There is a pic from the internet

And this a real working crusher (from my work)

Process of disassemble

Finally the process of disassemble, I make a video for you, the process its really easy but its very dangerous.

Honda Peru- Service area and warranty process

Hello Again... Ok I know I don't post anything important yet, I have a liitle problem with my work, well really I change work, previusly I was worked in Honda del Peru S.A. in the subdivision of service now I do in Shougang Hierro Peru S.A.A. a chinese mining company I'm in the mechanical maintenance area, more accurate in the area of plants, I will tell more about  in the future.

Today I want to share some things I learned  in Honda.

HONDA DEL PERU

Honda del Peru is a subsidiary from Honda Co. a company dedicated to design, manufactured and sell light vehicles, general pourpose engines, and other things, here in Peru the largest market is for Motorcycles, the cars are important too but Honda's cars is a luxury vehicle and no much people buy them. We have two assembly plants here one in Callao ( a province inside the Capital Lima) this is no big but is important, and one in Iquitos (in the jungle), the both only assembly MotoKars.

SERVICE AREA

I was in the service area, this is the most important area for prestige in a Company because they solve the problems of vehicle warranty.

Since a international branch sell diferents  products in the diferents parts of the world, and these products are manufactured in diferentes plants, we must have a complete set of spare parts for each type of unit and its depends of the model, year of fabrication  and the place of fabrication too. Sometimes we don't have this spare parts and have to find in the national market a similar part (this is common with bearings, nuts and bolts), but when is a more specific part like brake pump or clutch parts we have to bring from the manufactured place, and this is a travel sometimes for the middle of earth.

For that reason we must do a statistic reaseach about how many units will fail this year based on the data from previusly years and the information from the manufactured house (sometimes they say: "Ok we do some things bad and the units from this to these will fail, then you have to change this part").

Finally we bring these parts to the STA ( "Autorized technical service" who is the place where the units will be fixing or recive it maintenance.

APPROVE OR REJECT WARRANTY CLAIMS

First a warranty claim is a claim from the user to the company, in that say the malfunction of the vehicle and a  diagnosis from a STA, commonly is sent by the STA.

When the service area recieve the claim first have to accept, this doesn't mean that the claim is approve, this only mean like " Ok we will analyse your failed part", next the STA send the bad part to the Company for the revision, if we determine that the fault is for bad use the claim will be rejected in otherwise will be approve.

And... How we determine that? Ok in some cases we try to reproduce the fail in a test vehicule other we only see the fail (with the experience of silimar cases you know why is the fail ), finally we send the spare part to the STA for the replacement to the failed unit.

Another important thing is the maintenance schedule, Ok really there's no schedule, the maintenance of the vehicule ,light vehicules (heavy vehicule for construccion and mining have another type of schedule maintenance) depends of the kilometers; if the user fails with this rule any warranty claims will be rejected.

Then you know, not fail to the maintenance is important for your vehicule and for you warranty.

MANUALS

For each type of vehicule we have three kinds of manual parts, workshop, and user manual.

Parts manual.- Is the manual where there is all the vehicle and the diferents parts in it (how you can guess is a lot of parts) for this reason these days manual for big vehicles are virtual or online and small vehicles like motorcycles, scooters, Motocar, fourtrax, etc. are in book or in pdf files.

Workshop manual.- This is a manual for the STA or maybe for a mechanic who wants to disarm and arm the vehicle. this contains all the torques and metods to do that and the specials tools too.If you want to see I will share the manual of the Wave Style Motorcycle.

Sorry but the file is too heavy and google docs don't show a preview

User Manual.- Well the mane say it all, is the manual for the user, inside you will find all the basics information for the correct use (obiusly a lot of drivers don't see this manual) and the "schedule" for the maintenance.

I hope you enjoy this post, will try to post one thing each week. To next week.

Hola, Hello, Hallo, おはよう

Welcome reader to my blog, this blog will contain diverse information about topics that I´m interested, so I would write something about Technology and Science, Martials arts in special Aikido ( I practice this discipline for about two years), Robotics, Biorobotics, Microcontrollers, some of sunny and thinks like that.

Well and I want to tell somethig of me I´m a gratuate student of Mechatronic Engenniering in National University of Engeniering in Perú "UNI" for Friends, actually I do a trainee  in Honda del Peru and yes I see a lot of cars and Motorcycles, maybe I´ll post some manuals in the future.

Well I´m a Spanish native speaker, so.... forgive me my mistakes in writing.

Thanks and lets start
